Abiola Afolabi-Akiyode bags outstanding Penpushing Media leadership award

The Founding Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) a Non-Profit Civil Rights Organization, Dr Abiola Afolabi-Akiyode has bagged leadership quality award courtesy of Penpushing Media, a renowned online media organization.

Penpushing reports that Akiyode-Afolabi, a Nigerian lawyer and civil rights activist was bestowed the award by the management and editorial board of the organization, at its 6th anniversary lecture held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The former Nigerian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Ishola did the presentation at the colourful and well attended ceremony where former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was the chairman, with Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola as the royal father of the day, as well as other notable dignitaries in attendance.

Penpushing further reports that the presentation caught the awardee unaware, as the management kept the decision to honour her to their chest, until Akiyode-Afolabi was called out at the event for the leadership quality award.

The Founder of Penpushing Media, Dr Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji said at the occasion that the management of the organization had closely monitored the proactive nature and zeal of Akiyode-Afolabi, who also served diligently twice as chairperson of anniversary planning committee of the media outlet, and became convinced about her leadership quality.

Penpushing also reports that he said the awardee was unaware of the honour, adding that the editorial board and management of the media outlet kept the arrangement secret, and to surprise her, adding that she got to know about the award at the venue of the events

‘The editorial board and management of Penpushing Media religiously monitored her activities as a forthright human rights activist, and her track records of addressing and providing solutions to plights of those whose rights are tramples upon’, Kayode-Adedeji said.

‘In the same vein we observed her genuine commitment towards successful growth of Penpushing Media and having served twice as chairperson anniversary planning committee of the organization with resounding records of success. It was decided that she deserves to be honoured’, he said

Penpushing reports that the recipient in her remarks affirmed that she was caught unaware of the award, and that he was short of words as it came to her as a surprise package, as she expressed appreciation to the management of the organization.

The African activist and a feminist scholar; a human rights attorney said the award will further be encouraged and spur her not to relent in efforts fighting for the rights of victims of the oppressors in the society
