90 killed in tanker explosion in Jigawa state
At least 90 people were reported killed, as well as 50 others sustained varying degrees of injury on Tuesday following a tanker explosion in Majiya town located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Penpushing reports that Jigawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer Shi’isu Adam made this known explaining that most of the victims were killed in the explosion after they surrounded the accident scene.
The police spokesperson Shi’isu Adam said the injured 50 people had been hospitalized as at the time of filing this report, adding that the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University and which led to the explosion.
” At about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Majia Town, Taura local government area of Jigawa, the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University and it exploded. The driver left Kano and was heading to Nguru in Yobe when the accident happened’, Adam said.
“We are worried that in spite of police warning for people to steer clear from scenes of accidents involving fuel tankers, they still engage in such acts. People gathered around the accident scene, that is the reason for the mass casualty,” he said
Penpushing further reports that the Command Public Relations Officer disclosed that a mass burial of the victims would be held on Wednesday, adding that the injured were receiving medical attention at the General Hospital Ringim.
