‘These decisions were made after a series of reported death threats against National Electoral Officials assigned to conduct the elections, as well as the continuous refusal to accept and comply with the provisions of the NAB constitution, electoral guidelines, and directives from the National Executive Board’, Rafindadi wrote.

Penpushing further reports that the statement said the National Executive Committee (NEC) strongly condemned the unruly behavior and threats to lives by some members of the Ogun State chapter.

The statement pointed out that this constitutes a complete shame and does not represent the mission and values of the noble organization, stressing that these actions undermine the safeguarding principles of respect, ethics, and dignity that National Association of the Blind (NAB) upholds

‘Following a detailed report from the electoral committee and thorough deliberation, the National Executive Board resolved the following with immediate effect: Suspension of Ogun State Chapter Election

‘The scheduled Ogun State Chapter election is hereby suspended indefinitely to save lives and maintain the mission and values of this noble organization. This became necessary after several unsuccessful efforts to restore peace, as some individuals are still not willing to give peace a chance’, the statement added.

‘The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of the Blind is suspended indefinitely from all association-related activities within and outside the state. The outgone state executives are to hand over all property and assets of the association to the National Executive Board through the office of the National Secretary with immediate effect.

‘Anyone or group found parading themselves as leaders shall face the wrath of the law. All individual members identified as having issued death threat messages against national officers are hereby suspended for 10 years. They will be handed over to the security agents immediately for further investigations’

‘They are required to stay away from all Association activities within and outside Ogun State during the period of suspension. These decisions aim to restore order, discipline, and adherence to the organization’s constitution and values, ensuring the safety and well-being of all members nationwide’.

‘The NEC assures all members that adequate records will be kept of those involved, and penalties are meant to serve as a deterrent to all members nationwide., the statement emphasised

The National Executive Committee also wishes to assure all members that anyone who directly or indirectly contributed to the crisis in Ogun State NAB, shall be brought to book’, the statement added.

‘We urge the blind community to remain calm and cooperative during this period. We reaffirm our commitment to promoting the welfare and rights of persons with visual impairments in Nigeria’, it reads.
