Ogun state community head petitions police over alleged invasion of village by land grabbers

The Head of Ebere Community of Omu in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State, Engr Segun Lawal has petitioned the police to wade into the alleged invasion and attack of the community by suspected hoodlums who planned to seize portions of land in the community.

Penpushing reports that, the community leader in the petition written on his behalf by his counsel, Barrister Adesegun Adebayo to the Assistant Inspector General of Police and dated 9th August, 2022, said the alleged landgrabbers stormed the community with dangerous weapons to forcefully take over the land.

The petition explained that, the hoodlums allegedly sponsored by three identified sponsors whose focus was the land reserved for health centre project, adding that on arrival they were shooting sporadically, forcing residents to flee their homes for safety

‘We act as a Solicitor for Ebere community , via Omu as represented by Bale Engineer Segun Lawal, the Baale of Erebe. About  12 noon on 8th August 2022 about 50 hoodlums and landgrabbers sponsored by Messrs Titilayo Olawunmi, Samuel Olawunmi, Gbenga Olukoya and Mumuni entred  Ebere community  with cudges, guns, cutlasses etc and stated that they are the owner of Ebere and they had come to take over Ebere’, the petition reads

‘Two of the hoodlums and landgrabbers were identified as as Kajubo and Segun Osinubi. They threatened to pull down houses and were shooting sporadically into the air. The people Ebere became terrified and ran away from their homes and took refuge at Omu neigbouring community’’, the lawyer stated

‘Bale Engr Lawal invited the police from Omu and when the hoodlums heard that the police were coming, they ran away, only to regroup  and forcefully entered our clients land which had long been reserved for building health centre’, Adebayo said

‘The land in issue is the subject matter of a land dispute in HCJ/121/2015 Samisdeen  Abayomi Adelaja & anor VS Olawunmi Titilayo & 2ors pending at Ijebu-Ode  High Court. Our clients are the claimants in the case while the sponsors of the hoodlums and land grabbers are the defendants’

‘The suspects have committed offences contrary to the provision of prohibition of forceful occupation of landed properties, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other anti-violence related offices law 2016. Our client will appreciate an immediate investigation of the complaint
