29 year old man rapes beanbaker in Ogun state

A 29 year  old man, Buhari Abiola popularly called ‘Eyinju’has been arrested by the  Ogun State Police Command for forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 21 year old girl (name withheld) .

Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who made this known said, the arrest of the suspect followed a report from the victim who reported at Adigbe divisional headquarters.

The police spokesman said the victim explained that while she was selling fried potatoes and beancake at church street area of Ojere, the suspect came to buy the fried potatoes and asked her to come and collect money in his house which is a stone throw distance to the place.

Penpushing further reports that, Oyeyemi said, the victim also stated that on getting to his house, the suspect forcefully dragged her into his room where he had carnal knowledge of her against her consent.

‘Upon the report, the DPO Adigbe division CSP Austin Okpadile detailed his men to the scene where the randy suspect was promptly arrested. On interrogation, the suspect who was denying initially later confessed that he actually raped the girl’, Oyeyemi stated

Penpushing also reports that, the command said, the suspect stated that he has been making advances to the girl for quite some time but the girl has been turning him down, and when he saw her selling fried potatoes, he decided to use that as a bait to get her to the bed.

The Commissioner of Police  Kenneth Ebrimson who expressed worry about the rate at which young girls are being sexually abused has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and deligent prosecution.

Penpushing recalled that, stakeholders across the globe under Penpushing platform has called for promulgation of law that will prescribed castration of rapist to check the menace which is almost becoming regular occurrences in the society

The submission was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a round-table discussion of Penpushing online Media on ‘’Rapist and the havoc, the solution to the menace” held on Friday 1st May, 2020

The communiqué endorsed by the Editorial board of the organisation noted that, the issue of rape and defilement is attaining a serious challenge globally, and this  therefore calls for concern as it gives governments, citizens and the civil society groups’ serious concern, stressing that rape. and defilement are grievous, dehumanizing and it should be condemned by all and sundry.

‘Rape and defilement cases should be reported to the Police as soon as it is discovered. To further check the menace of rape and defilement, perpetrators should be castrated. Cases of rape and defilement should be an exemption to the State Pardon Policy’.

The discussion which lasted for over 24 hours, also resolved that, the lawmakers both at states and national levels, should in unison sponsored a bill to support severe punishment for the perpetrators.

The communiqué noted that survivors and their families are also shy of the labeling and stigmatization that is often associated with reported cases, lamenting that, this, in a way has encouraged the culture of silence.
