Presidential race: I did not step down for Tinubu, says Amosun

A Presidential aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Senator Ibikunle Amosun has declared that he has no alliance with Bola Tinubu, who is also a presidential aspirant for the party ticket race

Penpushing reports that, Amosun representing Ogun Central at the national assembly made the clarification following rumours that he had agreed to step down for Tinubu at a meeting in his private residence in Abuja.

The former Governor of Ogun State in a statement signed by his aide, Bola Adeyemi , said the Senator remains a presidential aspirant, adding that he(Amosun) remained focused on the race, contrary to speculation of stepping down for any other aspirant.

Penpushing further reports that, Adeyemi in the statement also used the opportunity to debunk speculation that, the former Governor had also picked a senatorial ticket in attempt to contest for re-election.

“The first false claim was that Senator Amosun has been cleared to contest for the Senate while the second claim that Senator Amosun is set to align with a named presidential aspirant for the presidential contest.

“The two news stories are false. They are instances of the brand of politics that responsible Nigerians abhor. For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Amosun procured only the forms for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and did not attend the screening exercise for Senatorial aspirants because he is not one. Also, Senator Amosun is in the race for the presidential ticket of the APC and has no plans to align with any politician in the race.”
