2023: Electoral commission clears air on authentic presidential candidate of all peoples movement
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed Princess Chichi Ojei as the authentic presidential candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the forthcoming 2023 General elections in Nigeria
Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Information and Voter Education of the Commission, Festus Okoye made the clarification in a statement following controversy surrounding who is the qualified candidate representing the party in forthcoming poll
The management of the WFM radio station had on December 19, 2022 invited and hosted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listed governorship candidates to a media parley in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where it was brought to its attention that one of the participants referred to herself as presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) following a reported court judgement in May 2022.
“On 19 December 2022, we invited and hosted INEC listed female gubernatorial candidates to a media parley in Abuja to give visibility to our 2023 female candidates. It was brought to our attention that one of the participants referred to herself as presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement following a court judgement in May 2022”, the management said
Penpushing further reports that, Okoye in clearing the air informed the radio station and other stakeholders that the commission was not aware of any court hearing as being claimed by the controversial candidate of the party, emphasising that the approved presidential candidate of All Peoples Movement (APM) is Chichi Ojei.
The Chief Executive Officer of WFM, 91.7 Toun Okewale-Sonaiya declared that following clarification by the electoral body, the station will only engage and support female candidates recognised and listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 elections
“Festus Okoye Commissioner for Information and Voter Education of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in a conversation with Women Radio said that Princess Chichi Ojei is the APM presidential candidate for the 2023 elections and it is not aware of any court hearing, Okewale-Sonaiya emphasized.
“Women Radio will only engage and support female candidates recognised and listed by INEC for the 2023 elections and not cases in court. We reiterate that the mandate of Women Radio WFM 91.7 is to promote and develop the causes of Nigerian women irrespective of social status. We specially thank the Nigerian media that have continue to work with us to promote Women in politics and leadership”, she added
