MAIDEN WEST AFRICA PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS TO HOLD IN NIGERIA

The Convener and Executive Director Concert Radio and Television said the initiative follows the rapid digital transformation within the photographic society and opportunities regarding emerging innovations in the industry.

Penpushing further reports that, Orelaja ,  who was trained by an acclaimed World Class Photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi ,in a press statement,  stated that West Africa Photography Awards ( WAPHA) intends to give photography a new face lift by fostering unity amongst photographers across West Africa and by extension to the other African countries.

The Convener added that, part of the essence of the project include; making photography a viable profession in West Africa, promoting the works of photographers in West Africa through a reward system, encouraging the younger generation to see photography as a noble profession, creating a database for photographers in West Africa and then to the whole of Africa and to seek more relevance for professional photographers in West Africa.

Penpushing also reports that, he further disclosed that the Awards program which will run for three days will feature Workshops, Photography Conference, Novelty match, Art Exhibition, and Gala night, adding that, there will also be a number of developmental programs that will bring positive changes to the profession of photography in West Africa amongst other entertaining and educative activities.

The statement explained that, for the awards, categories of entries, which shall be made open soon, Trophies and a cash prize of $2000 await winners in each category, while other Awards will go to 20 Veteran Photographers across West Africa.

Penpushing reports that, the statement said others to be celebrated are photographers, who have contributed to the growth and development of the photography Industry, adding that Advisory Board for the establishment are;  Iyalode of Yorubaland(Chief(Mrs) Alaba Lawson, Engr. Ifeanyi Christopher Oputa; President of the Association of Professional  Photographers, Ghana, Mr Steve Ababio; Chairman Photo journalists Association of Nigeria, Mr Akinlabi Ademola
