200 years after war, Owu indigenes reunite at homestead
200 years after abandoning their homestead following 1821 war which scattered them, the Owu indigenes have recorded a feat, with return to their origin, Orile-Owu located in Ayedade Local Government Area of Osun State
Penpushing reports that, this history was made weekend when dozens of traditional rulers and village heads, as well as community leaders of Owu settlement were hosted by Olowu of Orile Owu, Oba Daud Akinfalabi, who expressed delight at the progress of redeveloping the legendary home of Owu people in the Yoruba nation.
The former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who doubles as Balogun Owu had been in the forefront of the unification of all Owu people scattered in diaspora settlements in Nigeria and beyond since two centuries ago, using an association, Royal Union of Owu People, (RUOP) formed in Abeokuta in 1993 as a platform.
Penpushing further reports that Royal Union of Owu People, (RUOP) has been meeting at alternating Owu towns in the South West and Kwara for 30 years deliberating how to rebuild the ancestral home of Orile Owu, the manifestation of which was made this weekend.
The Balogun Owu, who turned the sod of the secretariat of Royal Union of Owu People, (RUOP), an epitome of a new Owu town at where all Owu indigenes scattered into diaspora settlements would come to rebuild their ancestral homes, implored all concerned to take the project to their hearts as a mean to promote and stabilise their identity among their Yoruba kinsmen and other Nigerians.\
Penpushing also reports that, besides launching a masterplan of the new town and laying the foundation of Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP) Secretariat, delegates were treated to cultural entertainment and exhibition of local fabrics produced by Owu Women from different locations.
