20 armed robbers attack two banks in ekiti state, scores injured
Armed robbers said to be about 20 on Wednesday stormed Ikere Ekiti of Ekiti State, raided two banks- Wema Bank and Access Bank branches located in Odo Oja and Oke-Osun areas of the town, and made away with an unspecified amount of cash.
Penpushing reports that the masked armed robbers attacked the Ikere office of the Amotekun Corps before simultaneous raid of the banks on arriving the town at about 5 p.m, with reports having it that three persons were reportedly killed and several others injured in the robbery which lasted for about 45 minutes.
The armed robbers blasted the security doors of the banks with dynamites, which also destroyed several cars parked within the vicinity of the banks, while as at the time of filing this report the Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer Sunday Abutu was yet to issue any official statement on the ugly development.
Penpushing further reports that the traditional ruler of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Alagbado, however, expressed shock over the incident, adding that it was unfortunate that the robbers carried out the operations for several minutes unchallenged despite the presence of military checkpoints and Police Area Command in the town.
Meanwhile, the royal father said he had discussed the matter with the security agents and urged them that the robbers must be arrested and prosecuted.
