
10-year-old boy kills father with AK 47 rifle
A 10-year-old boy has allegedly shot dead a police inspector with AK 47 rifle, while the police officer was said to be on duty at a Polaris Bank branch in Awka town of Anambra State.
Penpushing reports that the deceased identified as Okolie Amechi was said to be at his duty post, when the 10-year-old said to be his son visited him alongside his siblings, who were playing with the rifle.
The eyewitness account said it was not clear if the police inspector was aware that the minors were playing with the rifle, but ironically the 10-year-old boy pulled the trigger and struck the father on the back and his second child on the hand.
Penpushing further reports that the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday, explained that what happened was an accidental discharge
“The son, unaware of the state of the AK 47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector on the back and his second child on the hand. Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment’, Ikenga said.
Penpushing also reports that the spokesperson of the command who is a superintendent of police said the AK-47 rifle had been recovered and that the body of the inspector had been deposited in the morgue.
The statement added that the police authorities in Anambra State have condoled with the family and friends of the deceased inspector, and wished the injured victim a quick recovery.
