Yahoo boys shoot Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operative dead

Suspected Internet fraudsters popularly called Yahoo have shot dead an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and injured others at Onitsha, the commercial hub in Anambra State.

Penpushing reports that eye witnesses explained that the internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys, suddenly opened fire on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives during an operation in the area.

The witnesses added that aside from the slain operative of the anti-crimes agency, one other officer and a few residents present during the attack sustained gunshot injuries, adding that the operatives were said to  had travelled from the  Zonal Headquarters in Enugu for the arrest of the suspected Internet fraudsters in Anambra State.

“The Yahoo boys ambushed them (EFCC operatives) as soon as they noticed their presence in the area. In the process, they killed one EFCC officer and injured many others,” Chuks Odikpo, one of the witnesses, said.

Penpushing further reports that the killed operative whose identity was yet to be ascertain was said to be an Assistant Superintendent who recently completed a promotional examination.

The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted was said to have confirmed the development adding that the police authorities had begun investigation into the incident.

Penpushing also reports that Ikenga, a superintendent of police, disclosed that a suspect in connection with the crime has been arrested and arm has been recovered as at the time of filing this report.
