WOMEN ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONTRUST FUND IN NIGERIA

 “We are making a strong call on the government for the establishment of the ‘NGO Trust Fund’ in Nigeria, and particularly, Oyo State which NGOs can access to implement their numerous activities according to various thematic issues of focus, this trust fund in accordance to numerous global agencies mandates and calling public and private sectors to strategically allocates resources to reduce the global poverty by year 2030’.

Penpushing further reports that, Oluwatoye noted that over 200million support have been granted in cash and kind, noting that most  Non-Governmental Organisations(NGO’s) have no steady granting support, stating that,  doing these as voluntary and philanthropic services to redress the numerous challenges confronting the people, especially women and their children.

“In the annual reports submitted by our members, over 200 projects reaching well over one million people have been implemented by the members within numerous communities of Oyo State, though mostly in Ibadan metropolis and the less city local government areas constituting almost 5million people and a few NGOs in Oke-Ogun area”.

“We are committed to do the right and best things to make services in our chosen mission reach populace and asking government to create necessary enabling environment to buttress government efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy and help banish poverty from Nigeria”.

“The event we gathered here is to launch an arduous task that was conceptualized some three and half years ago, we started as a forum for meeting all registered women issues focused NGOs with the Ministry of Women Affairs were mobilized and invited to a meeting”.

“We currently have a total of 63 members on our register all with their profile being launched today as published in the compendium showing details about search organization. I wish to request you to kindly use the compendium we have published to kindly put to good use even beyond Oyo State’.

Penpushing also reports that, the keynote speaker at the event, Mr  Folorunsho Moshood, who is the Admin/Programme Director, Educate Trust International Civil Society Fellow, while speaking on the theme: “Right, Responsibility, and Remuneration for Civil Society Entities”, said that there is a need to situate the terms “NGO” within a broader term, “CSO”, in addressing the topic.

The Speaker noted that the importance of forming a civic infrastructure was to generate enough social and human capital to be able to tackle a problem holistically, adding that owing the fact that the engaged in enormous tasks of social and community development on a daily basis, NGOs need both human and material resources to work with and survive and they must raise enough funds and recruit quality personnel that will help in achieving their goal and objectives

Penpushing further reports that, Folorunsho pointed out that the law guiding the right of workers in Nigeria are also applicable toNon Governmental Organisation( NGO) workers, saying that there is no difference between right of worker and that of the Non-Governmental Organisations(NGO’s).

“Just like other counterparts in other sectors, worker in NGOs are entitled to the following which include minimum wage, compensation, pension scheme, work schedule, national/state holiday, sick and annual leave, maternity leave, safety and welfare, protection from discrimination and termination of contract to mention few’.
