We sacked Emir Sanusi over insubordination-Kano State Government

The Kano State Government has explained reasons behind the dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, on Monday attributing it to act of insubordination from the former monarch, a vocal advocate of reforms in Northern Nigeria..

Penpushing reports that, the State Government in a statement made available to journalists by the Secretary to the Government Usman Alhaji, said the Executive Council unanimously approved Sanusi’s removal.

“The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to insubordination,” ,the statement said.

“It is on record and in so many instances Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate,”

The Governor in the statement, called for calm “while a new Emir of Kano Emirate will soon be appointed”,while as at the time of this report, and in a swift reaction, Sanusi and other members of the Kano emirate are challenging the law in court.

Penpushing also reports that, number of residents and other Nigerians  see the Kano Government’s action as  the Governor’s way of getting at  Sanusi who is believed to have worked against the Governor’s re-election last year.
