We are guilty of lockdown violation, Funke Akindele, husband admits in court

The popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello (JJC Skillz) were on Monday arraigned before a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos, for violating the coronavirus lockdown directive of the Lagos State Government.

Penpushing reports that the couple when arraigned admitted guilt of the offence committed on Saturday night  for throwing a birthday in their Amen estate residence off Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State.

The charge was filed against the couple by the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, while the crime is a breach to the Lagos infectious diseases regulation (2020), which prescribes N100,000 fine or a month jail time for violators.

The alleged offence was followed with verbal public attack on the family for flouting government directives on total lockdown and ban on large gatherings to check the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Penpushing further reports that, the Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020 (the Regulations) prescribes a jail term of one month or N100, 000 fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

“Where there is a violation of a close down or stay at home order, security agencies shall have power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person who violates the close down or stay at home order for at least forty-eight (48) hours’.

“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of one Hundred Thousand Nara fine (N100,000.00) or one (1) month imprisonment or three (3) months Community service,” ,and with the violation the government-ordered lockdown and ban on large gatherings, the couple now risks a fine or jail term as comeuppance for the violation.

Penpushing also reports that, as at the time of filing this report, the proceedings are still on, while the accused awaits the judgment of the court by Magistrate Aje Afunwa .
