United Nations lauds panel on Lekki shootings report

The United Nations (UN) in Nigeria has lauded the submission of the report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up by the Lagos State Government to look into the shootings and brutality during the 2020 protest against police brutality which took place in Lekki area of the state

Penpushing reports that the United Nations (UN) Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria Mr. Edward Kallon gave the commendation, on the Monday 15th November, 2021 report as submitted by the panel

“I welcome the submission to the Lagos State Governor, H.E. BabajideSanwo-Olu, of the reports of the judicial panel on claims of brutality and shooting in the Lekki area of Lagos State, during the 2020 EndSARS protests’ Kallon emphasised.

Penpushing further reports that, the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria  noted that the submission of the findings of the judicial panel would accelerate the process of justice and accountability.

“I urge the government to implement the recommendations of the judicial panel of inquiry to rebuild trust and start the process of healing and reconciliation.” The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator stated.
