Two dead, 14 rescued as building collapses in Imo state

The collapse of an eight-storey building collapsed in Owerri , the Imo State Capital has claimed lives of two persons, with many still trapped as at the time of filing this report on Thursday evening, while sources also informed that about 14 persons have been rescued from the rubble of the uncompleted building.

Penpushing reports that, the sad incident,occured  on the Yar’Adua Drive,while Security operatives, State government officials and personnel of  the Nigeria Red Cross were not left out innthe rescue missionthe all through the night to salvage the situation.

The alarming incident caused panic in the iown as many people, mostly labourers were trapped in the rubble, while as at the time of this report it is believed that over 40 persons were in the building at the time of the collapse.

Penpushing further reports that, speaking with journalists,the commissioner for health in the state, Damaris Osunkwo, said 14 persons had been rescued “and over 25 were still under the rubble.”

The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer , Orlando Ikeokwu, said that the police were working with others to rescue those trapped in the rubble, while as at the time of this report the police have cordoned off the scene.

Meanwhile, further finding through a source discloaed that the building had remained uncompleted for many years.
