The early morning time

By Lawrence Achudume

“Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;” Job 38:12

An African proverb says, the morning determines the day.

Wise men of old often begin the day by declaring in the early hours of the day what they expect from the day and how they expect the day to end.

David, was one of the notable men of the Bible days, he was a man favoured by God. He was a man after God’s heart. He never lost any battle. He lived a life of early morning cry and declarations to God.

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalms 5:1-3

The Psalmist is saying in essence that if there is any voice you are to hear in the morning, it is my voice and not only my voice of confessions or declarations but I will afterwards direct my prayers to you and look up to you for the results and manifestation of my declarations and prayers. Note the phrase: “and will look up”

This simply means I will look to you with expectations, with hope of rejoicing at the dayspring.

Most believers pray and do not receive answer because they do not look up or expect answers. To believe is of the heart and until the heart believes it won’t look up. Sometimes we say with our mouth what our heart is not saying or understands.

David said “I will look up to you”

It is not enough to pray, fast and make sacrifices. We must look up for the rains of abundance on our prayers. The Psalmist in Psalms 121 tells us why he must look up…

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Psalms 121:1-8

His help and provision are from above.

As believers in Christ,  we are daily confronted with challenges and anti progressive forces. We need help to deal with enemies stronger than us.

He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. Psalms 18:17

The Psalmist knew if his day is to end well, he needs guidance and direction from God…

Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.

I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Psalms 143:1-7

…after he had prayed and made his declarations, he said…

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’ sake: for thy righteousness’sake bring my soul out of trouble.

And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant. Psalms 143:8-12

*Hear him in the morning.

*Show us the way to walk so we don’t walk into trouble. All these in the morning.

*Teach me to do your will.

*Lead me in truth.

*Help me through the day.

*Cut off my enemies
