Stalled Negotiation between Kidnappers, Boko Haram caused delay in release of Greenfield University students, says Gumi
The negotiator between Boko Haram and Nigerian Government, Sheik Ahmad Gumi has disclosed that the kidnaper’s delay on the release of abducted students of Greenfield University was because their kidnappers have links with Boko Haram.
Penpushing reports that, the controversial Islamic cleric, made this known in a monitored television interview explaining that unlike previous cases of abduction the kidnappers of the undergraduates have linkage with some elements of Boko Haram in the forest.
“The Greenfield abduction is unique because for the first time we saw a cooperation between some bandits and Boko Haram elements which confirm that Boko Haram are encroaching into the field, which is a bad situation’, Gumi stated
Penpushing further reports that, in another shocking revelation, Gumi revealed that, in the case of the students of Government Science College in Kankara, Katsina State, last year Boko Haram had reached out to the abductors with an offer that the students be sold to them because they (Boko Haram) could bargain better for ransom.
The Islamic cleric explained that the abductors, however, rejected the offer and eventually released the students after negotiations brokered by Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, disclosing that, all abducted students in Kagara, Niger State; Jangebe in Zamfara State, and Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation, Kaduna were released through negotiations.
Penpushing also reports that, Gumi emphasised that, on the kidnapped students of Greenfield University, it is proving difficult because of the linkage between the bandits and Boko Haram.
The kidnappers it is recalled on April 17 attacked the private university and seized 20 students, five of whom they have killed, and recently also demanded ransom of N100million else they will kill them.
