Residents trooped out to witness installation of new Olubadan

The ancient town of Ibadan on Friday went agog, as indigenes and residents trooped out in large number to participate and witnessed the installation of the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun.

Penpushing reports that, the ceremony was held at Mapo Hall, with number of various associations and well wishers in different attires in joyous mood dancing to the indigenous music of the town.

The Ali-Iwo compound where the new monarch hails from were not left out of the ceremony, while traditional drummers and native praise singers, with scores of well-wishers were also sighted at different locations on Oje-Beere-Oja-Oba road

Penpushing further reports that, security agents which include: Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Operation Burst and Amotekun personnel were assigned to strategic locations in a bid to prevent the breakdown of laws and orders.

The major roads leading to Mapo Hall, venue of the ceremony  were blocked, and commuters had to trek some distances to get to their destination and venue, while it was also noted that traditional worshipers were seen a few metres away from the venue celebrating the event.

Penpushing also reports that, notable dignitaries at the ceremony include Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo singing, dancing, and expressing joy about the ceremony and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

The other personalities at the ceremony on installation of the  42 Olubadan of Ibadanland include Governors Kayode Fayemi(Ekiti),Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Deputy Governors of Osun and Ondo, Benedict Alabi and Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi III; the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar; Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Fredrick Akinruntan; and Ambassador of the Republic of China to Nigeria, Cui Jiauchun.

Penpushing reports that, others were Yusuf Adeleye, the Olubaka of Okaland in Ondo State; Oluwo of Iwoland; the Ikere of Saki; and Aseyin of Iseyin, former Governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan, Rashidi Ladoja, and a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro, who represented Bola Tinubu.

The 42nd royal father of Ibadan was ushered into the venue at exactly 11.50 a.m., after which all the traditional, Mogajis, chiefs, religious leaders, leaders of various associations in Ibadanland paid homage to him,

Penpushing also reports that, Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde who presented the staff and instrument of office to the Olubadan, while reading the relevant law backing up the presentation said the event was in line with the laws of the state.

The new monarch while speaking after receiving the staff of office, thanked the Governor for the gesture, and pledged that he would not let down his subjects in view of the task ahead, and commended all dignitaries for creating time to participate in the ceremony

Penpushing  reports that members of the Olubadan-in-Council, the Iyalode-in-Counncil, traditional religious leaders, Baales, Traditional title holders, Mogajis, amongst other groups  pledged their loyalty and support to the new traditional ruler.

The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun while congratulating the new monarch and the entire people of Ibadanland as well as the state, said the succession system to Olubadan throne is unique in that it gives no room for bitterness or rancor.
