Police impounds 70 motorcycles over alleged criminal activities in Ogun state
The Ogun State Police Command has impounded seventy unregistered motorcycles following investigation revealing that their operators are involved in crimes which include wanton destruction of properties
Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement said, the command having realized the involvement of riders of unregistered motorcycles in disorderly behavior and wanton destruction of properties by Okada riders, the command, in conjunction with other security agencies set up a joint task force to clamp down on the riders of such unregistered motorcycles.
The police spokesman said the operation commenced on Thursday 2nd of June 2021, in Abeokuta metropolis, adding that it is going to be extended to other parts of the state in the coming weeks.
“During the operation coordinated by the assistance commissioner of police in charge of operations, ACP Bolanle Muritala, no fewer than seventy unregistered motorcycles were impounded by the task force”, Oyeyemi said.
The statement declared that the impounded motorcycles will not be released until the owner of such motorcycle provided evidence of its registration, and the number plate which must be fixed on the motorcycle.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun has commended the task force for the professional manner in which they carried out the operation and also commended the leadership of Okada riders association for their supportive role and assured them that the operation is going to be a continuous exercise
