Police arraign surety for alleged failure to produce suspect

A 50-year-old surety, Idayat Odunola, has been arraigned before Magistrate’s Court, Iyangaku, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital facing conspiracy and perverting the course of justice for allegedly failing to produce a suspect.

Penpushing reports that prosecutor, Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 31, 2024 at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police said that Odunola stood as surety for one Segun Ilemobayo, who was allegedly involved in a fraud and stealing case, explaining that the surety failed to produce the suspect on January 3, 2025 and dates when he was needed at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Penpushing also reports that the prosecution said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, however, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum, and subsequently adjourned the case until April 10,2025 for hearing.
