Police apprehends 17 suspected kidnappers in Oyo State

The Oyo State Police Command said it has arrested  17 suspected kidnappers at various locations of the state ,adding that they(suspects) were said to have been terrorizing Igana in Iwajowa local government area of the state, as well as Ogbomoso axis.

Penpushing reports that the Commissioner, Adewale Williams while parading the suspect on Friday at the Command headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan, said the suspects were responsible for the abduction of one Aishat Lawal, Haruna Jaye, and Olasunkanmi Wasiu.

The police boss unveiled identities of the suspects as include  Anjola Abubakar, Sani Abdullahi, Sani Jafaru, Sule Muhammadu, Isha Muhammed, Aliu Jafaru, Umar Abubakar, Mustapha Baruguma, Unaru Usman, Abdulahi Sani, Jamiu Jubril, Kayode Kolade, Laggi Usman, Jamiu Iroko, Sule Bello, Umar Shuaibu, and Kali Weti.

Penpushing further reports that Williams said some of the suspects were also responsible for the abduction of the farm manager of ex-governor of the state, late Otunba Christopher Alao Akala, (Christopher Bakare) who was kidnapped on 16th July, 2022.

‘In the bid of the Command to get rid the state of criminal and unscrupulous elements, the command today, Friday paraded the abductors of one Christopher Taiwo Bakare and Doctor Rasheed Oladoye who were kidnapped on the 16th and 22nd of July at Jabata and Gbede via Ogbomoso axis respectively”, he said

“Also, operatives of the command attached to Igana Divisional Police Headquaters through intelligent driven surveillance and painstaking investigation around Igana, Iwere Ile, Ijio, all under Iwajowa Local Government Area of the state apprehended number of them”

Penpushing also reports that, Williams  in his detail analysis of the suspects noted that Anjola Abubarkar, Sani Abdulahi, Sank Jafaru, Sale Mohammed, and Isah Seriki were responsible for the kidnapping of the Akala’s farm manager, while Umar Abubakar, Mustapha Baruguma, Aliu Jafaru were responsible for the kidnap of Dr Rasheed Oladoye.

The Police boss, said the suspects have confessed to the crime, adding that they are under open interrogations as they are helping the command with information that will be of a great help to the command.

Penpushing reports that one of the suspects, Abudulahi Muhammed aged 42, a residents of Igana, in his confession to journalists said, he was an active member of the kidnap syndicate, having been involved in the illegal business for over two years

“I was arrested for kidnapping one Alhaji Yahyah, I’m active member of the kidnap syndicate, I have been on kidnapping business for over two years and the first victim we kidnapped last gave us a ransom of N1million and I was given N150, 00 as my share of the money, we used to operate anywhere that is conducive for us in Igana area’, he disclosed.

The Police boss however thanked residents of the state for their support, urging them not to relent by provision of credible and timely information capable of nipping crime in the bud at all times, while exhibits recovered from the suspects include one dane rifle gun, detachable hood cap, one expended cartridge, sum of twelve thousand naira and a pair of one slippers.
