The one -week old Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan has been impeached by his colleagues, and also placed him on indefinite suspension alongside six members loyal to him
Penpushing reports that, the removal of Aribisogan on was carried out by seventeen out of the 25 members of the Assembly at the chamber and was subsequently replaced by a female lawmaker, Olubunmi Adelugba from Emure Constituency.
The embattled suspended Speaker, it is recalled was elected in a controversial manner to replace the late Speaker, Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye ,but his emergence angered party leaders who had endorsed Adelugba as the new speaker.
Penpushing further reports the crisis which followed Aribisogan emergence, made the police authorities shutting down the assembly complex and reported foiling an attempt by some hoodlums to set the building on fire .
The other lawmakers suspended alongside Aribisigan include Hon Tajudeen Akingbolu, Goke Olajide, Yemisi Ayokunle, Adeyemi Ajibade, Kemi Balogun, andTope Ogunleye, while in similar vein, the assembly elected Hon Johnson Bode-Adeoye as a new Leader of Business and Lateef Akanle as a new Chairman for Committee on Appropriation.
Penpushing also reports that, 24 hours before his impeachment, Aribisogan had accused former Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, of orchestrating the opposition to his election, adding that Fayemi was working with members of the state legislature to oust him.
“The majority of members of Assembly voted for me but few of them who felt perhaps I did not follow the directive of the former governor, Dr Fayemi, thought that they would make the state ungovernable for even the administration’, Aribisogan stated.
“I didn’t have any quarrel with him. I sent a message to him even last night asking, ‘What is happening? Am I no longer one of your loyalists? Why did you not congratulate me?’ Up till now that I’m speaking with you, he has not done anything. Otherwise, he has been going around calling our members to go and impeach me tomorrow. That is the truth’, he said.
“As I’m speaking with you, seven of our members are locked up in Fem Guest House in Ado Ekiti, planning on how to impeach me tomorrow in cahoots with some of his former aides like the former commissioner for justice.”
Penpushing reports that,, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti State Governor, Yinka Oyebode, in response to allegation against his boss, said the issue was a party matter and that it would be wrong for embattled former speaker to raise such allegation.
