Ogun state government set up committee on workers outstanding issues,says Governor Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured workers in the State that all outstanding issues relating to their welfare would be attended to, saying his administration is labour friendly, and has equally set up committee to look into all outstanding issues..

Penpushing reports that, Abiodun addressing  the leadership of the organised labour in his Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta,  said a Committee, made up of government officials and members of labour unions would be set up to look into and resolve all issues between government and the labour, reiterating his administration unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare in the State.

The Governor added that the committee should not be seen as a labour or government committee, but a committee with the mandate to ensure that labour and government continue to work together in the best interest towards the development of the State

“I have directed that a Committee be set up between government and labour, with the responsibility of ensuring that all the issues that are outstanding are resolved promptly”, he said.

The Governor admitted that he was aware that workers were most agitated by the non implementation of the new minimum wage, which he said was due to the current situation in the State, assuring that all matters would be promptly resolved by the Committee.

“I am aware that there are some issues that are very important to you. I know that the issue in particular, is the minimum wage. Unfortunately, the current situation has not allowed for the implementation’.

‘I want to assure you that this and other issues would be dealt with by the committee and I have given them the mandate to ensure that these issues are resolved within the shortest possible time”, he assured.

The Governor while congratulating the organised labour on the Workers’ Day prayed for quick solution to the coronavirus pandemic, expressing hope that next year’s would be celebrated with pageantry.

The State Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole,speaking with journalists shirtly after the meeting noted that labour already had an agreement with the State government, which he said was sacrosanct, affirming that the issue of half payment of salaries would not happen in the State.

“The workers in the state are interested about the minimum wage, we signed an agreement and they were expecting that it should be consummated by way of implementation and this has not happened’, he said.

‘So, it was one of those things that we put before the Governor and he has reassured us again that he has put up a committee to look at it. We are aware of the pandemic and commended the state government for being proactive’,the labour leader stated.
