OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT PROSECUTES 91 SANITATION OFFENDERS

The Ogun State Government has prosecuted Ninety-one sanitation offenders who breached the extant sanitation Laws at various locations across the State, during the January environmental sanitation exercise.

Penpushing reports that, Commissioner for Environment,  Biodun Abudu-Balogun, disclosed  this  in a statement, noting  that the prosecution of offenders would serve as deterrent to others, calling for total compliance with the environmental Laws.

The Commissioner explained that the Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA) has been reformed, to address the current mode of waste management and improve on the public hygiene across the State, towards ensuring the total well-being of its citizenry.

Penpushing further reports that, Balogun  warned residents  to desist from erecting structures on waterways and dumping refuse in drainages, to protect the environment and stay healthy, adding that the Government is engaging officials with waste trucks to tackle issue of waste collection .

“We are engaging people with waste trucks and allocating them to respective Local Governments and wards across the State, to tackle the issue of existing waste collection and management process in achieving a cleaner and healthier State’’, he added.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Rasak Ojetola, reaffirmed the current administration’s determination to ensure healthier environment, advising the people to always maintain clean environment, imbibe proper waste disposal and prevent littering the environment, to avoid the spread of air borne diseases.
