Obiano will remain in detention until he meets bail conditions, says crimes commission

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the detained immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, would remain in custody until he met his bail conditions.

Penpushing reports that, the Chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Bawa made this clear on Monday while speaking with journalists, explaining that Obiano has been granted bail, but would not be allowed to go until he fulfils his bail condition.

The Commission boss who was silence on the bail conditions, however, disclaimed claims in some quarters that, the former Governor was arrested for political reasons, stressing that there was nothing like politically motivated arrest

“He has been granted bail. But we await (when) he fulfils his bail conditions. There is nothing political about the arrest of the former Anambra State Governor, Wille Obiano’, the agency chairman explained,

“We are a financial institution and we know what the EFCC stands for; we investigate crime and we look at people who have committed a crime. And of course, we go to court and we have been doing that. And that is what we would continue to do’, he added.

“I don’t know what update you want me to give, because you have been accusing us of media trials, and you want me to say we are doing this and that. No, we (EFCC) would not do that. We would continue to do our investigation professionally as we have been doing.”
