Nigeria’s Defence Minister resigns on health ground, says Presidency
The Nigeria’s defence minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his appointment, with immediate effect, and this was based on health ground.
Penpushing reports that Special Adviser to the President, on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga made this known in a statement on Monday night adding that Abubakar”s letter of resignation was dated December 1, 2025 and sent to President Bola Tinubu.
The statement added that the President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Abubakar for his services to the nation, adding that the President will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.
Penpushing further reports that the 63 year old Abubakar was a two-term Governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023 and was appointed as a Minister on August 21, 2023, by Tinubu, however, his resignation comes amid Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
