The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) ,Abeokuta has recorded another feat, facilitating borehole for residents of five communities comprising: Ogbe,Igbore,Totoro, Sokori and Ijeja located in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that, the borehole with a 120m depth, having a yield of 60 liters per minute was constructed by the Ogun Osun River Basin Authority, following intervention of the television station headquarters situated in Ogbe area of the state capital.
The commissioning of the 12-panel solar powered borehole water supply infrastructure along with 2 Nos. 5,000-galoon storage capacity plastic tanks mounted on a 6m stanchion took place on Friday at the premises of the television station.
Penpushing further reports that, the project is also provided with 5 numbers, water drawing points with possible domestic pipeline network into various apartments within the beneficiary communities
The General Manager of the station, Funmi Wakama in her welcome speech said the event marked another epoch making event in the history of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abeokuta, and part of its social responsibility, particularly to the neighbouring communities.,
‘For institutions like Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority, who in spite of our challenges would rather look at modest achievements, believe in us, and support us. I cannot thank you enough. But like Oliver Twist, we want more and will always ask for more’, she stated
Penpushing further reports that, the television station boss commended the management team, staff and the Adhoc committee, who worked tirelessly to put the programme together at very short notice.
The General manager emphasized, the support of members of staff and all those who, in one way or another, have contributed positively to the success story of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abeokuta, under her watch.
Penpushing also reports that Wakama pointed out that the Director General, Nigeria Television Authority, the largest TV Network in Africa, Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, is equally determined to ensure that the station retain its pride of place in gathering of broadcast stations through unbiased reportage and utmost display of professionalism.
The station manager used the occasion to highlight some other achievements under her administration, adding that, ‘we migrated to Non Linear transmission, popularly known as tapeless broadcasting almost three years ago and just as we commenced 24hours Transmission on the NTA/Startimes Platform.
‘In other words you can watch NTA Abeokuta anytime, anywhere on our various Digital Media Platforms, which include mobile apps on google playstore and the IOS for Apple buffs. We have also received our approval for Google Adsense on our website’, she added.
The General manager explained that, visitors would have noticed the new look at the station’s Oke Egunya studio and Ogbe premises, and in addition to the perimeter fence in Ogbe headquarters, calling on support to carry out same at Oke Egunya studio.
‘Our Engineers were able to improve the vision output on our terrestrial transmitter from 0.9KW to 3.3KW and boost the Sound from 0Watts to 340Watts by January, 2018.With the installation of Internet Services both at Ogbe and Oke Egunya, we increased the daily news bulletin from 30minutes to 1hour, to include entertainment, business news and sports’
‘We have in our little way provided work tools for operational use but still require a lot more.We thank God, Almighty for our contributions and successes within the last three years. Penpushing reports that, the Chief Executive Officer of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority ,Olufemi Odumosu in his remarks said the borehole has also been drilled to a 120m depth, having a yield of 60 liters per minute with the capacity of providing potable water to a community of thousands of people
‘From the foregoing, we can see that the scheme has been designed to provide adequate and continuous water supply for these communities all the year round. However, it is important to note that NTA ,Abeokuta need to take over and claim ownership of this water scheme facilitated by NTA and ensure proper monitoring of the operations and usage of the borehole’’, he said
The Managing Director of the donor agency advised the management of the Nigerian Television Authority(NTA) on need to set up a maintenance committee or group to carry out adequate check on the water scheme, so as to notice in time any hitch early enough and effect precautionary measures
‘The committee will probably be given the training needed on the adequate maintenance culture for the borehole by our technical officers in Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority. Let me once again ,implore the communities, the main beneficiaries to ensure adequate maintenance of this project, so that it can serve you for a very long time to come’, Odumosu emphasized
Meanwhile, Chairman of Ogbe community,Fatoki Alawode who spoke on behalf of other communities expressed appreciation to the management of the Nigerian Television Authority and Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority for the gestures, stressing that it will go a long way in solving water problem in the communities.
