Nigerian Government releases 8 out of 12 detained Igboho’s aides
The Department of Security Service on Monday released eight of the twelve arrested aides of Yoruba nation agitators, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called ‘Igbo’, who is also currently in custody in Benin Republic.
Penpushing reports that, the release of the eight comes barely after the expiration of the 48 hours ultimatum issued by their lawyer to the Director-General of the security operatives, Yusuf Bichi, to release them or risk being jailed for contempt.
The Department of Security Service had adamantly continued to detain them despite the bail granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja on August 4, following their arrest at the home of Igboho on July1, 2021 in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
Penpushing further reports that, the detainees counsel Pelumi Olajengbesi, had on Friday argued that such blatant disregard for, and contemptuous, spiteful and insolent disrespect for an order of court if allowed to fester would undermine the very integrity of the court
Penpushing also reports that, the spy agency, as at the time of filing this report has not come out for any explanation in releasing the eight suspects and held on to four others who have also met their bail conditions.
The Department of Security Service, it is recalled had filed an application for the Federal High Court in Abuja to reverse the bail granted four of the detainees, but later withdrew the application, stating that it would pursue its objection to the bail granted the four persons at the Court of Appeal.
