Nigeria Youth Organisation commences process for partner ogun state government to explore cultural heritage

The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO), Ogun State Chapter on Tuesday commenced process to explore major traditional and cultural sites across the state in in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to foster synergy between youths and government leaders.
Penpushing reports that the chairman of the body Comrade Saka Olarewaju made this known when he led members to Olumo Rock Tourist Center in Abeokuta, explaining that the visit was part of efforts to promote cultural heritage, tourism and youth engagement in the state.
The chairman added that the tour was in line with the organisation’s objective of encouraging youths to understand and appreciate their environment and cultural endowments. Pointing out that Olumo Rock continues to attract visitors, including foreigners, especially during the festive season, stressing that such interest should motivate Nigerian youths to promote local tourism.
“As youths who love to explore the cultural heritage of Ogun State, it is part of our responsibility to know our environment and what we are blessed with. Instead of always looking outside the country for tourism, our state has unique places we can visit, have fun and be proud of’, Saka said.
Penpushing also reports that he reiterated the organisation’s readiness to support government initiatives, including the Iṣẹ̀yà Movement of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while appealing for recognition and support from the Ogun State Government.
“We are not lazy youths. We are youths ready to partner with government to promote development. Most of our activities are self-funded, as we are an NGO, but we have continued to contribute to the community through environmental sanitation, security advocacy and youth engagement,” he said.
Penpushing reports that Saka added that the organisation recently organised a security summit with the participation of security agencies and traditional rulers, including the Olowu and the Onimeko, to address border security concerns.
The Deputy Chairman of the youth organisation, Comrade Sekinat Jimoh,in her remarks described the visit as adventurous and fulfilling, praising the improvements and ongoing developments at the tourist centre.
“As an indigene of Abeokuta, I am happy to see the new developments here. It is far better than what it used to be, and I believe it will continue to improve. Charity begins at home. If foreigners can appreciate what we have, we should appreciate it even more. When we value our culture, others will value it with us’, she said.
Penpushing further reports that Jimoh urged Nigerians, especially Ogun state indigenes at home and in the diaspora, to appreciate and promote the country’s cultural heritage, noting that foreigners already show keen interest in Nigeria’s tourist sites.
The group during the visit explored major historical and cultural features of the Olumo Rock, including natural hiding spots used by the Egba people for defence during ancient wars, shrines dedicated to traditional deities, unusual ancient trees growing on the rock, and the summit which offers a panoramic view of Abeokuta metropolis.
Penpushing also reports that the visit equally featured a tour of the Olumo Rock Museum and Art Gallery, where participants learned about the history, culture and traditions of the Egba people.
Meanwhile, the visit forms part of Nigerian Youth Organisation’s(NYO’s) planned activities for 2026 aimed at promoting cultural awareness, youth participation and tourism development across Ogun State.
