Nigeria: Violent attacks claim 200 lives within one week

The troubled country, Nigeria has recorded over 200 deaths, and 137 people abducted within a week, following violent attacks across country, which could not be curtail by security agencies, despite their efforts.

Penpushing reports that, the figures were traced to family members of victims, while record has it as well that among the victims were  seven Nigerian soldiers  killed by an improvised explosive device planted by Boko Haram terrorists, in Borno state.

The findings also revealed that, a notable victim was former political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, who was shot dead in Owerri,  Imo State capital,while on his way to the airport enroute Abuja, Federal Capital Territory(FCT).

Penpushing further reports that, a 51-year-old  businessman, Maduabuchi Owuamanam was killed by gunmen at a relaxation spot located in  Oremeji Mokola area of Ibadan and this was confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command.

The gunmen in another development abducted  many pupils of an Islamic school in Tegina town, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, having earlier attacked  the police station in  the town, and this was confirmed by the Niger State Government disclosing that 136 children were seized

Penpushing reports that, Odoke, Ndiobasi and Obakotara communities in Ebonyi Local Government Area were not left out, as, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen launched attack and killed 30 persons, while this was confirmed by the Chairman of the local government, Chinyere Nwaogbaga.

The Gombe State Government  said  over 50 houses were set ablaze following  a communal clash between Shongom and Filiya districts over farmland which resulted in the  death of one person , and there was also report by Nigerian Army confirming that  its officials in Sabon Birni, a border town between Sokoto State and Niger Republic, intercepted and killed three gunrunners moving weapons on foot into Nigeria.

Penpushing further reports that, in a related  incident, Christopher Dega, a retired police officer ,an aide to Benue Governor Samuel Ortom on security,was shot dead  in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

The similar development was recorded in Osun State,with   no fewer than seven people including police officers shot dead  during  bank robberies carried out at  First Bank in Ikire and Access Bank in Apomu

Penpushing also reports that, following military repelled on terrorist attack on Damboa, a Borno community,over 50 attackers were killed as confirmed by the military authorities adding that the terrorists came in an armoured personnel carrier and 12 gun trucks.

The Army spokesman, Mohammed Yerima said the bandits came with trucks mounted with Anti Aircraft Guns, as well as locally fabricated Armoured-plated Vehicles loaded with explosives and motorcycles.”

Penpushing reports that, Yerima. said the terrorists, members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), were defeated so much that they had to abort their suicide mission, while in same vein, record has it that gunmen  hijacked a bus belonging to Chimola School in Oba Ile Estate of Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo state and abducted a staff member said to be on duty.

The other places affected during the period were some communities in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State,where police confirmed that 88 people were killed  by bandits.

 Penpushing reports that, suspected bandits killed twelve farmers and nine others injured in Magami and Mayaba communities in Gusau local Government Area of Zamfara State, when the gunmen  launched the attack while the farmers were on their farms trying to clear their lands in preparation for this year’s farming activities.
