Lockdown: Ogun State Government to distribute food items to 500,000 homes as palliatives

The Ogun State Government is to embark on palliatives measure on Saturday for the residents as the lockdown on coronavirus commences, with   500,000 homes and an average of four persons per household as beneficiaries

Penpushing reports that, the Governor,  Dapo Abiodun  in a statement on the official Twitter page of the State Government on Thursday explained that  distribution of a stimulus package to residents is to  cushion the economic effects of the lockdown of the state declared by the federal government.

The Governor said the package will contain food items and hand sanitizers for use over the 14-day pilot stage of the lockdown, assuring that the distribution will not be influenced by regional or political affiliations, emphasizing that  all distributing officers have been duly trained and instructed.

Penpushing further reports that, Governor Abiodun pointed out that  the social distancing advisory will be ensured in the distribution process as the package will be distributed at any gathering but at individual homes, adding  that everyone should continue to be guided as they go about their activities before the distribution commences.

The President, Muhammadu Buhari   had  on Sunday announced two weeks  restriction of movement in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun, where there are many cases of confirmed coronavirus  infection, but the Governor  said he later obtained permission from the Presidency to shift the implementation of the measure to Friday, to enable the state government prepare palliatives for the people.
