Lockdown: Iyalode of Yorubaland, Lawson donates food, cash, clothes to lepers, market women

The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson on Thursday extended gestures to lepers and women in Ogun State with donations of food items, cash and clothes as palliatives in view of the lockdown against coronavirus.

Penpushing reports that, Lawson visited the Lepers colony at Iberekodo located in Abeokuta North Local Government Area with bags of food items, cash and clothes, where she distributed the donations to hundreds of the inmates.

The event commenced with praise worship and prayers where the donor, her team and the inmates jointly appreciated God for keeping them alive, as well as prayers asking God to intervene against the deadly ravaging coronavirus.

Penpushing further reports that Lawson in similar gestures has commenced the renovation of some buildings in the colony, which as at the time of filing this report has reached completion station, and will be handed over in due course

The Iyalode also gave pledge to  parents at the lepers’ colony, to buy working tools for their children who are artisans, adding that she would remain committed to the welfare of the downtrodden in the society, as part of her own social responsibility

Penpushing also reports that, Lawson extended gestures to hundreds of women in a social distancing arrangement, where the items were distributed to them, while the beneficiaries could not hold their excitement and joy as the distribution lasted.

The leader of the lepers colony, John Ojoawo in his remarks said Iyalode has remain a source of joy for the inmates, adding that, the palliatives she brought in the wake of the coronavirus, was not new or news to them.

Penpushing reports that Ojoawo affirmed that the gestures have remained regular benefits for them coming from the Iyalode, and expressed profuse appreciation for considering them again as the lockdown against coronavirus lasted.

‘Iyalode has been a source of joy for us. She even facilitates many donors for us here, and we remain grateful to her and pray that God will continue to bless and enrich her. She is a woman who has passion for welfare of others’, he stated.

Penpushing further reports that, a female inmate, Falilat Odunawo while speaking pointed out that Lawson is a good mother, who is always with them at the colony to make them happy all time, adding that she would not be forgotten for her gestures.

‘She is a good mother, always with us and what she is doing today is not strange to us, she has always been with us at all time, even attimes she visit us unnoticed and before leaving put smiles on our faces. I pray that God will continue to bless him’, she emphasized.
