Lockdown: Four road crashes recorded on Ogun state highways in one day

The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Ogun State Command said a total of four   road traffic crashes were recorded on Friday  on highways across state involving fourteen persons, with two of them sustaining injuries.

Penpushing reports that, the Sector Commander, Clement Oladele made this known in a press statement, adding that no death recorded in the crashes, while those who sustained injuries were taken to hospital for medication.

The Commander explained that, the first crash occurred at about 114900hrs along  the Abeokuta- Ibadan route around Ida  village, involving a Mazda bus with registration number LCD 352XW,adding that the victims were seven, with one of them sustaining injuries.

Penpushing further reports that, Oladele said it was a lone crash, adding that the cause wrongful overtaking, while the male injured victim was rescued to the hospital and the crash scene cleared.

‘The second crash occurred at about 1130hrs along the Abeokuta- Lagos expressway at Ifo  around Iyanna Ikereku .  01 vehicle was involved with registration number EPE137CW-MAZDA 626. A total of 06 persons were involved comprised of (02 male adults and 04 female adults)   No injury was sustained from the crash nor death recorded.  The suspected cause of crash was excessive speed that led to loss of control’, he said.

‘The third crash occurred at about 2211hrs around RCCG youth center on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, involving a tanker loaded with chemicals that spilled it contents on the road . FRSC rescue team were promptly on ground for the trans loading to take place and the vehicle was finally towed off the road’, Olawale stated.

‘The fourth crash occurred at about 2304hrs around Magboro on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It was a case of hit and run involving a male adult, FRSC Rescue team from Ibafo Outpost rescued the victim   to Idera Hospital Sagamu for medical attention’, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, on traffic advisory, Oladele has cautioned motorists to drive cautiously and drawn motorists attention on need to exercise greater restraints when traveling especially along the Lagos  – Ibadan  and Sagamu – Ijebuode Expressways, around the portions where traffic is diverted on the Lagos  – Ibadan Expressway  between Ogere and Fidiwo , near Ogunmakin, as the axis around the diversion, have recently been associated with frequent crashes, involving multiple vehicles.

The Sector Commander further reminds motorists to note that the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Lagos  – Ibadan Expressway, by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC from Sagamu Interchange to Lagos  and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) from Sagamu Interchange to Ibadan,  have partially resumed and thus require extra care to avoid unnecessary road traffic crashes, with motorists cautioned not to travel beyond the maximum speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour, at construction zones, as prescribed by the National Road Traffic Regulations,2012

Penpushing reports that, Oladele disclosed that, the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) operations would include continuous collaboration with sister security agencies in implementing the coronavirus directives issued by  both the Federal and Ogun State Governments, especially as they relate to preventing overloading of vehicles with passengers and goods ; enforcing  physical distancing; compulsory use of face masks and restrictions of movements across Ogun State during the period of the curfew .

.The Sector Commander enjoined all the corps operatives deployed to display high level of diligence and professionalism during and beyond the special operations, and wished Muslims faithfuls Happy Eid  El Fitre.

Penpushing further reports that, Oladele emphasized  that motorists arrested for contraventions of traffic rules may be prosecuted by Special Mobile Courts, adding that, ’to  report a road traffic crash or road obstruction, please call the  FRSC Toll Free Number 122’.
