Kenyan Apostle Murumba calls for proactive measure to address drugs menace in country

A renowned Kenyan Apostle, Dr Carolyne Murumba has raised concern over the high rate of drugs abuse and alcoholic consumption in the country, lamenting that the development had caused number of family break up, and therefore called for proactive measures by government to address the menace.

Penpushing reports that Murumba made this observation and call during a sideline exclusive interview at the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) sponsored conference to leverage  regional value chain opportunities and business linkages to improve Intra-Africa Trade held in Nairobi, Kenya Capital

The Founder and President of Revival Prophetic  Network, which undertakes eradication  of alcoholism  and drug abuse programme  suggested need by the Kenyan government to pass a law in reducing number of pubs in the country, stating that high number of drinking joints are major factors of the menace

‘Good afternoon my name is Dr Caroline… I’m a Kenyan citizen and I am very glad to be at this conference and regarding the drug abuse it is very high in Kenya, especially in the towns, where we find out that most men have ran away into alcohol and some illicit drinking’, she said.

‘This has caused some family to breakup because they use all the money in the bars having nothing left to bring home and this causes break up and there are so many bars here’, Murumba emphasised.

Penpushing further reports that she recalled that about two months ago, Kenyan Government implemented a strategy that was discussed by the parliament to reduce the number of pubs in the towns, but was not sure if the discussions get the appropriate nod for its implementation.

The Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO)  activist pointed out that investigations showed that illicit drinking places should be sealed up and chase away the perpetrators, emphasisng that promoters of such places should be prosecuted

‘Two months ago the government of Kenya implemented a strategy, that was discussed by the parliament to reduce the number of pubs in the town, and leave only a few areas, and also ban the places where illicit drinking takes place and in places they don’t know, and if they know they chase them and send them to court’, she stated.

‘Because of some fathers running away to alcohol, we find out that they are not there for their families and they children are left to be raised by their mothers. You find that the teenagers also run away and get into smoking, drinking alcohol and even this shisha, this is very rampant’,Murumba said.

Penpushing also reports that she noted that the bad habits equally resorted into early pregnancy by underage girls, coupled with large scale of abortion, and untimely death, and however, called for rehabilitation of the addicts

‘You will also find out that the girls are getting pregnant, there is also abortion and when it happens some of them get premature deaths. So this is very bad, even cocaine and is something the government should look into, also the creation of more rehabilitation centers here in Kenya to help in the situation.

Penpushing reports that in the interview the female cleric disclosed that her organization as part of its positive contributions in addressing the menace to a standstill, was currently working with a movement called Southey Machinaly, a voice where the organisation is reaching out to the youths
