Igboho escapes Nigerian Government ambush

The famous Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho on Friday narrowly escaped being arrested in an ambush plot allegedly organized by a joint team of Soldiers, Department of Security Services (DSS) and policemen.

Penpushing reports that, Igboho was said to be going for a meeting with an elder statesman, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, when the attempted arrest by about 40 operatives occurred along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The ally of Igboho, who is a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode confirmed the incident, adding that there was a violent attempt to arrest the Yoruba fighter, and also condemned the attempt

“I just spoke to my brother Sunday Igboho. He told me there was a violent attempt to arrest him this afternoon by a joint team of soldiers, DSS operatives & policemen numbering about 40 on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway whilst he was on his way to see Baba Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos’, he said.

“I condemn this attempt to ambush and abduct him. It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him, all they need to do is to invite him to their offices. I am not aware of any crime that he has committed and I urge restraint on all sides’, Fani-Kayode emphasised.

“Let me also send a warning to the FG (federal government) that Sunday Igboho is a hero to millions of Yorubas and either killing him or detaining him unlawfully would be the biggest mistake they could make. Building bridges, dialogue and peace is better than violence and war. A word is enough for the wise”, he wrote on Twitter.

Penpushing also reports that, when a telephone was put across to Igboho to find out details of the incident, he was yet to respond to calls as at the time of filing this report, while the Oyo State Police Command Public, Gbenga Fadeyi could not be reach to comment on the alleged attempt of the arrest.
