I WAS A MASQURADE WHILE GROWING UP AS A YOUTH, GOVERNOR AMOSUN CONFESSES

In a related development, Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka is to convene a workshop for drumming advancement in Africa, as the Ogun State Government announces its readiness to host the 3rd edition of the African Drum Festival in Abeokuta, the State Capital.

The Governor, Ibikunle Amosun disclosed this as a press conference adding that the festival is scheduled to hold between April 19 to 21, 2018, which is aim to bring Africans together and to showcase the continent’s rich culture.

He spoke at Mitros Hotels in Abeokuta, venue of the press conference adding further that the theme of the festival is ‘’Reviving Our Culture in Drums’’, and also explained that third week of every year has being allocated for the festival which will also include with exciting activities, such as road shows, conferences, workshops and exhibitions among others

‘’Third week in April of every year, all roads will be leading to Abeokuta for African Drums Festival along with exciting activities, such as road shows, conferences, workshops and exhibitions ‘’. Amosun said.

The Chairman, 2018 African Drums Festival Organising Committee Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, said the opening ceremony would hold on Thursday, April 19, with a press conference and a workshop, tagged ‘’Drumming for Advancement” to be convened by Prof. Wole Soyinka at the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex, Abeokuta on Friday, April 20.

Onanuga who is the State Deputy Governor added further that the grand finale holds on Saturday, April 21, where traditional rulers from the Eastern and Northern parts of the country are expected to attend.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Olumuyiwa Oladipo, said the third edition of the festival would be bigger and better than the previous editions.
