I dumped my oyinbo girlfriend to marry Derin, Osoba confesses

The former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has confessed that, he dumped his Oyinbo girlfriend  to marry his wife and former first lady of the State, Derin Osoba(nee Adeyemi), disclosing that at  that time, he was a man about the town, with all kind of women around him.

Penpushing reports that Osoba made the confession in his memoirs, ’Battlelines: Adventure in Journalism and Politics’, adding that he met Derin in the heat of the Nigerian Civil War(1967-1970),while he was returning from England.

The journalist turned politician said, Derin was on her desk as official of the customs, revealing that on arrival through a ship-Elder Dempster M.V Apapa  he spotted her during customs clearance,’ I noticed an efficient female customs officer, who seemed interested only in her work and not any idle chatter’

Penpushing further reports that, Osoba said Derin checked the papers without being overbearing or overtly friendly, adding that when it was his(Osoba) turn he stared at how she(Derin) was conducting her business, searching his luggage and clearing him with ease.

‘She checked the papers, without being overbearing or overtly friendly. When it was my turn, I just stared at how this lady was conducting her business, searching my luggage and clearing me with ease, decorum and professional efficiency’, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, the veteran journalist said this conduct arrested his attention so much that the reporter in him couldn’t ask her anything all through, and was too mesmerized to even ask of her name and her personal details

‘Deep down, she struck me as a good looking lady. She arrested my attention so much that the reporter in me couldn’t ask her anything all through. I was too mesmerized to even ask for name and her personal details. But, in tune with a hit song of that era, what will be will be, Que sera sera’, he wrote

Penpushing further reports that, Osoba recalled that, a week later, as destiny would have it, he met her again at a party in Apapa, having come in the company of a close friend of hers, Moji Kukoyi who was then dating one of his(Osoba) friends.

‘A week later, as destiny would have it, I met her again at a party in Apapa. I was wondering. Was she not that girl, that customs officer?  Is she not the same customs lady?  I kept asking myself.  In her, I saw an image of a reserved, unobtrusive person, a wife material’, Osoba recalled

‘At that time, I was a man about town. I had all kinds of women around me. But then, I saw this game changer of a lady and I said to myself. This looks like a girl that I could be involved in something serious with. Moji created the link. I was dating a white girl before I met my Derin’, Osoba reminiscenced .

Penpushing also reports that, the successful journalist said he would forver remained grateful to his late father-in-law, Pa S.O Adeyemi who he said his disciplined background further endeared him to Derin, who became his wife
