Gunmen kill pastor during church service

The Shepherd-in-charge of a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in the Idiroko border town of Ipokia local government area of Ogun state Yomi Adetula has been shot dead by suspected gunmen during a church service

Penpushing reports that the gunmen stormed the Sunday church service and shot the cleric while delivering his sermon in the presence of fear-stricken congregants inside the church auditorium at about 11 a.m. while preaching.

The multiple sources said the gunmen numbering six were armed with AK-47 rifles and disguised in Celestial Church’s garments invaded the Hebrew Celestial Church located at the Odo Eran area of the Old Garage Road in Idiroko and let off a gale of bullets on the deceased pastor.

Penpushing further reports that the gunmen waited briefly to ensure the clergyman was dead before desecrating his body inside the church and thereafter left the scene, while sources said the deceased was said to be the Idiroko Unit Commander of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-SAFE Corps, one of the community security outfits established by Ogun state government.

The Commandant of Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, Soji Ganzallo , confirmed the incident, lamenting that he received the news of Adetula’s assassination with a rude shock.

Penpushing also reports that Ganzallo assured that the Corps would not relent, pledging the agency’s readiness to assist appropriate security agencies with the necessary information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects behind the savagery.
