GOVERNOR MAKINDE CALLS FOR TOTAL COMPLIANCE OF NEW MIGRANT ‘E’ REGISTRATION

‘We are all aware that there is a security challenges across Nigeria today, this program will enhance internal security, and help to identified, verified, and determined the status of resident and migrants, not only in Nigeria, but also in Oyo State’.

“I expect 100% compliance from all the eligible migrants in the State, landlords and foreigners should see this program as a point of duty, they should ensure that eligible foreigners and migrant in their vicinity registered on time.”

Penpushing further reports that, Makinde stated that security is a collective effort of all the people, adding that the Migrant ‘e’ Registration program is a partner in progress and capable of meeting security challenges in Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.

“Security goes hand in hand with economy because lack of peace and security will affect the economy as investors will run away whenever they perceived big security challenges, because where there is no peace, there cannot be development.”

The Governor pointed out that his administration place high premium on peace and security of life and property of the people in the State, as there is no meaningful achievement that can take place where there is no adequate security.

“This administration is resting on four (4) pillars, which are education, health, agriculture, and security of lives and property of the people.”

Penpushing also reports that earlier in his address, the Comptroller of the Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Saleh Abdullahi said that the main purpose of the exercise was to enhance security by verifying, identifying and determining the Migration status of resident migrants particularly in the State, and by extension, Nigeria.

The Comptroller  noted that the laudable program was flagged off at the service headquarters in Abuja on 27th of June, 2019 by  President Muhammad Buhari, and a sensitization program had earlier been held on Migrant ‘e’ registration with public relation officers of companies, expatriates, executive members of various African Associations, Non Nigerians, the Press and other stakeholders, where they have been acquainted with the eligibility, requirements/supporting documents for registration of different categories of migrants and the like during sensitization.

“This exercise entails the enrollment and biometric capturing of all Migrants (non Nigerians) residing in all the 33 Local Government areas of Oyo State or who may wish to stay for a period more than 90 days in line with section 57 Sub section 5 of the immigration Act of 2015.”

Penpushing reports that, he however called on landlords to know that their duty is to ensure that their non-Nigerians employees and tenants are duly registered under the same scheme, saying that failure to comply with this Migrant ‘e’ registration is contrary to Section 57 (5) of the Immigration Act 2015 and punishable under the same section, where the penalty is three years imprisonment or fine of five hundred thousand naira (500,000), or both.

“I urged you all to key into laudable program that is free of any charge and all-encompassing for both regular and irregular migrant”, the comptroller emphasised
