GERMAN DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION TRAINS GIRL- CHILD ON SKILL ACQUISITION

The Coordinator for Suatainable Economic Development,Hans-Ludwig Bruns in his speech noted that there is a gender skills gap in the sectors of construction and agriculture, which key sectors of the Skills Development for Youth Employment in Nigeria(SKYE)

“Youths especially adolescent girls and women should take advantage of the labour market needs in the sectors of construction and agric.There are available trainings to enhance these technical skills that will boost employment and reduce poverty in Ogun State and across Nigeria’,he said

Penpushing further reports that, Hans-Ludwig Bruns who is also the Head of the Skills Development for Touth Employment in Nigeria(SKYE) Programme, explained that, the programme is at the forefront to bridge the gender skills gap,’we are currently offering TVET trainings through our implementing partners’

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET) provides demand based skills for the job market or self-employment in Nigeria,the application of TVET tackles youth unemployment and underemployment and fights irregular migration and the country’s poverty crisis.

Penpushing also reports that,the skills acquisition workshop to promote adolescent girls and women was an eye-opening evet for participants that are now aware of the available opportunities in the contruction and agriculture sectors. The programme is a four-year programme funded by German Federal Ministry of for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The project is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit(GIZ), while Skills Development for Youth Employment in Nigeria(SKYE)programme focus on the acquisition of knowledge and skills for th labour market through Technical and Vocational Education and Training to tackle unemployment and underemployment,root causes of irregular migration and socio-economic degradation in Nigeria
