The 43rd remembrance anniversary of the late Sakara music icon, Yusuf Olatunji popularly known as ‘Baba Legba’ has been scheduled to hold on December 18, 2021 in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.
Penpushing reports that, Coordinator of the Foundation, Almansoor Olawale Yusuf made this known in a press statement, adding that the remembrance will be commemorated by the lighting of solar street lights at Abule Otun in Lafenwa area of the ancient town,
The statement further disclosed that the Ekafa of Olubadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi is expected to commission the anniversary projects, which includes the lighting of about 3 streets at Abule Otun in Lafenwa Abeokuta with solar street light.
Penpushing further reports that, other dignitaries expected at the anniversary includes the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Babajide, Ogun State Commissioner for Tourism, Otunba Taiwo, Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji. Waheed Odusile, as well as Alhaji Abidoye Amosun and Chief Kadijat Abike Elegbede (Cash Madam), amongst others.
The late musician was born in 1908 at a village established around 1835 by the duo of his grandfather Tanminue and his brother, while he was a Sakara musician who entertained, lecture, admonished through his music, he also documents rich Yoruba cultural values.
Penpushing also reports that, Babalegba as fondly called, contributed greatly to music in Nigeria and as result of his efforts and contributions, he was made leaders of musicians in Nigeria, the position he held till his death in December 1978.
The late Sakara music maestro during his life time, released 37 albums in just 10 years and over 100 singles and extended-play before he passed away in 1978, while all his albums remained evergreen in the music industry
