Former Nigerian customs boss, Abdullahi Dikko died of ‘cancer’ at 61, says associate

A former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Abdullahi Dikko has died on Thursday at the age of 61 years while receiving treatment at a hospital in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Penpushing reports that, district head of Musawa in Katsina State, Sagir Inde, who is younger of brother of the former customs boss, confirmed the sad development but did not disclose the ailment for which Dikko was treated; while a source said he died of cancer.

The close associate said, Dikko had sought treatment abroad for his condition and returned to Nigeria to recuperate two months ago but the ailment came back aggressive two weeks ago, which eventually claimed his life

“I was in the hospital yesterday between 4 pm and 5 pm yesterday (Wednesday) and the doctor said he was improving and that if he made it to Sunday, we are good. He came back to Nigeria to recuperate two months ago but it (cancer) came back aggressive two weeks ago,” he added.

Penpushing further reports that, a source, however said the former customs boss died of cancer, while as at the time of filing this report the family has concluded arrangements for  funeral prayer on Friday after Jumaat service at the national mosque, Abuja.

The deceased was born in 1960 in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, joined the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in 1988,and  was appointed Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) by former President Umaru Yar’adua in 2009 and served in the office until 2015.

Penpushing also reports that,Dikko  attended Government College, Kaduna, from 1974 and obtained the West African Senior School Certificate in 1980,and later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Master of Science degree in Finance from the University of Dimitrov Apostle Tshenov, Svishtov, Bulgaria.

The late former customs boss served in various commands, including Seme Border, Tincan Island Port, Apapa, Imo Command, Kaduna, Badagry Area Command, Investigation and Inspection Headquarters, Abuja.

Penpushing reports that, he worked at Badagry Area Command before he was appointed as Controller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on August 26, 2009, while his tenure was enmeshed in several alleged corruption.
