Evil of rape: let’s call for a stop against it

This morning, when I was listening to newspaper updates on the radio, about four reports about rape were reported, including the rape and murder of Miss Uwaila Omozuwa, the 100 level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

Now, with about four rape cases reported within last week alone, this seems to be a very hard end for the country, as it is moving on and with all efforts towards reducing it’s impact on the society not making any changes, the consequences are not only of injury to the victim but also to the society as a whole.

The rape and murder of Miss Uwaila Omozuwa, is indeed a great drastic evil to the young lady, her family and of course, the society,  the assailants should be fished out and made to face the consequences of their own actions as soon as possible, ever since I heard of these rape cases, I have not been of settled mind, asking myself of our society has now become so “useless” to these evil minded people like that.

Without bias, the rape and killing of Miss Uwaila Omozuwa, especially in a Church speaks much of our religious beliefs and activities, why would such action takes place in the Church, which is known as the “House of God”, if not that the assailants are of the Church and of course they have a link with the head of the Church before they can even do such great atrocious act. The head of the Church and those who are around that day must be arrested and made to face the music.

Without prejudice, this is even a slap on the face of Christianity as a whole, reason being that, the father of the murdered young lady, who was once a traditionalist has been convinced by her late daughter to become a Christian.

Meanwhile the daughter was a member of the Church Choir where she was murdered, but with the outcome, the father has now renounced the decision to become a Christian. Isn’t that a slap on Christianity?

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has ordered for a quick investigation into the murder of Miss Uwaila Omozuwa, and ensures that the assailants are fished out. But the question now is, hope with fairness and justice, the assailants would be made to face the music when they are finally fished out? As that would be the only thing that would certify the soul of Miss Uwaila Omozuwa and her family members too.

However, one needs to know whether there hasn’t been any other thing to be done by the people, aside rape? The government at the local, state and federal level needs to enforce a strict law to deal with anyone who is found culpable of this evil act.

Rape isn’t just a way to seek one’s own enjoyment as it may be called, but an injury to the other person, who is being inflicted on, moreover, women are not toys or are their genital parts bought for cheap price, neither did they asked to be raped. Stop sexualizing women
