ELECTORAL COMMISSION IN DICEY SITUATION OVER SATURDAY ELECTIONS

A source from the commission headquarters disclosed that, as at the time of filing this report, officials of the electoral body are in a meeting at the headquarters in Abuja, to fashion out the next line of action.

Penpushing further reports that, some of the affected states facing the logistic challenges include Niger and Ekiti, and it is recalled that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger State said ballot papers for two of the state’s three senatorial districts were missing as of Friday evening.

Similarly, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose had accused the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC) of  hoarding materials for the elections in some states to frustrate the opposition Peoples Democratic Party( PDP).

Penpushing also reports that the controversial former Governor claimed that he was aware that ballot papers and result sheets for Presidential and Senatorial elections were not in Ekiti State as at 9 p.m. on Friday.

The former Governor, through his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka  declared that, only materials for the House of Representatives were distributed, adding that, similar situations were reported in Oyo, Taraba, Edo, Niger, Ogun, Rivers among other states.

Penpushing further reports that, as at Friday night of filing this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner in charge of Publicity, Festus Okoye,  could not be reached.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday while the Governorship and State Assemblies elections are scheduled for March 2.
