CUSTOMS INTERCEPT SMUGGLED PERLOLUEM PRODUCTS, 13 FAIRLY USED CARS

He stated further that, since the command had effectively blocked all the illegal routes being used by the smugglers to bring in contrabands from the Republic of Benin into the country, they (smugglers) had become vulnerable, abandoning cars and bags of rice in the thick forest.

The customs boss said the intelligence arm of the command and members of the public in Idiroko axis had intimated the operatives with information which led to the current seizures, disclosing that the smugglers have now added petroleum products smuggling to their illegal business.

“Since the command had effectively blocked all the illegal routes the smugglers pass through, they have resorted to abandoning the bags of smuggled rice, cars and others in the bush. The command’s intelligence arm and members of the public provide information which led to some of the locations these seizures were made. We just went there and pick them up. We won’t relent in our efforts to reduce the incidence of smuggling in Idiroko axis and Ogun State in general.”

Speaking on another  development, Madugu  said  291 smuggled ‘Tokunbo’ cars bidded for through e-auction in the state, had been delivered to their beneficiaries, just as he disclosed that two officers of the command, Chief Superintendent of Customs,  Ali Jamairi and Superintendent of Customs,  Yau Habeeb, got letters of commendation from the Comptroller-General of Customs.
