Coronavirus: Ogun State Speaker admonishes residents to be ‘brother’s keeper’ as state begins lock down
The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on residents to be their brother’s keeper as lockdown in the State commences, following the ravaging coronavirus, with much attention on the less privileged and the vulnerable groups.
Penpushing reports that, the Speaker Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo made the call and also appealed on the residents of the State to complement government’s efforts especially during the period of the lock down.
The Speaker while speaking with journalists gave kudos to the State Government for its efforts at alleviating the plights of the indigents during trying time of the global pandemic, stressing that the cooperation of the people with government was essential during the lockdown of the State from 11pm on Friday.
Penpushing further reports that, Oluomo noted that, this remained major sacrifice towards curtailing the spread of the coronavirus in the State, adding that the State Government had embarked on the distribution of food items to support the less privileged, the widow, aged and other indigent groups.
The Speaker emphasized that there was still need for more through the supports and care of the residents to their neighbours to give them succour during the period, adding, “although government had embarked on the distribution of palliatives through some relief materials across the State, but love and care for our neighbors during this period would further bring succor to everyone.
“Government’s relief materials are meant for those who don’t have any means of catering for themselves during this period, hence those who have more should also support government’s efforts”, he remarked
Penpushing also reports Oluomo called on well-meaning individuals to support the less privileged and the down trodden, so as to reduce the challenges associated with times like this in the society, and seized the occasion to implore all residents to be law abiding by remaining indoors, obey all rules given by government and maintain social distance throughout the lockdown period.
