Convict on death row to be arraigned for another criminal charge

There was a mild drama at the Ogun State High Court located along Kobape-Abeokuta when accused person expected to appear in court over a robbery case could not appear before the judge, having earlier sentenced to death on a different criminal case.

Penpushing reports that when the case involving the accused person identified as Jimoh Tajudeen Nurudeen was called for arraignment over alleged murder, the state counsel told the court that he could not appear as he was already on death row.

The state counsel at court five where the arraignment was scheduled, explained to the court that Nurudeen is currently at the correctional centre, Abeokuta, waiting for hangman, having been convicted to death by a competent court before now.

Penpushing further reports that the female counsel added that the correctional centre will be contacted to facilitate the convict appearance and arraignment, thereafter, sought for adjournment of the criminal case

The trial judge Justice A.O. Asenuga in response to the prayer of the state counsel for adjournment of the case, subsequently granted the request and adjourned the matter till April 27, 2026
