CENTRAL WORKING COMMITTEE ANNULS OGUN JOURNALISTS POLL, SET UP CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR RE-RUN

‘Consequent to complaints following the refusal to allow some members to participate in the Ogun State Council election of March 29, 2019, the Central Working Committee resolved that the election be cancelled. Accordingly CWC directs the setting up of a five member caretaker committee to conduct fresh election within three months’, the communiqué declared.

The highest ruling body of the union, thereafter announced caretaker committee members as include; Kayode Taiwo of Ogun State Television(Chairman),Segun Lawole of Nigerian Television Authority (Secretary),Adewole Dosunmu of Ministry of Information(Member),Ayo Obadimu(Local Government Information(Member) and Dele Ayodo of Consolidated Chapel(Member)

Penpushing further reports that, in a related development, the union expressed worry over worsening insecurity in the country, particularly the spate of killings, kidnappings and attacks on Nigerians and calls on the Federal Government, and Security Agencies to overhaul their strategy to protect life and property of Nigerians.

The Union tasks Journalists and Media organizations to give Visibility and voice to ordinary Nigerians that are victims of kidnappings and other crimes, as in the case of elites in the society who occasionally fall victim but grab more media headlines and attention.

Penpushing also reports that, the body applauded the signing into law of the new minimum wage, by the Federal Government and appealed to state governments in the interest of progressive governance to ensure effective and timely implementation of the national minimum wage.

The Union equally charged elected political leaders across the country to provide responsive leadership and to fulfill their campaign promises with a view to restoring confidence of the people in governance, and also called on the Federal Government, and other relevant stakeholders in the health sector to redouble efforts in reducing maternal and infant mortality which is on the increase in the country.

The communiqué congratulated the Muslim Umma for commencing Ramadan and appealed to them to use the period to pray for peace, unity and security of the country, and with the on-set of rains, and the possibility of flooding in parts of the country, it called on the States to take proactive remedial measures especially by increasing the enlightenment campaigns among the citizens on the need to clear drains and water ways.
